ANNE BIALKE
Working on paintings for a show in the spring is a great experience, because all around you, Nature is throwing tremendous energy into her yearly rebirth. It's impossible not to be affected by that growth and vigor. Colors seem sharp and clear, and the world springs into brilliant focus as the trees and shrubs bloom and leaf out. A couple of paintings in this show have the softer tonal contrasts of later summer light, but in most of these pieces I found a special pleasure in sharp contrasts, intense juxtapositions of dark and light, which make the surrounding bright accents of color really sing.
