David Higgins

David M. Higgins is a Retired Associate Professor of Art at Corning Community College, where he taught painting, drawing, and graphic design. He was also the director of CCC’s Atrium Gallery, which exhibits work of regional and national artists. He was born in Deposit, NY and raised in Elmira and Binghamton. He received a B.A. in Studio Art from SUNY-Binghamton in 1983. He received an M.F.A. in Painting and Drawing from Louisiana State University in 1988. He once taught an art history course at the Hahn’s Disease Research Center in Carville, LA, the last existing leprosarium in the continental United States. He also worked for five years as a professional graphic designer. David taught at CCC from 1991-2021. He is a three-time Best in Show winner at the juried Arnot Regional Exhibition at the Arnot Art Museum in Elmira, where he has also won the second place award three times. He is a three-time Best in Show winner at the juried Susquehanna Regional Exhibition at the Roberson Museum and Science Center in Binghamton, NY. He exhibited in the 2012 Biennial Exhibition at the Memorial Art Gallery in Rochester, where seven thousand people saw his work.  Higgins has won Best in Show awards at the Made in NY Regional at the Schweinfurth Arts Center in Auburn (2017) and at the Southern Tier Biennial in Olean (2012). He is represented by West End Gallery in Corning and has exhibited his work nationwide.
