“I have been a practicing artist all my life and have developed skills in a variety of media including watercolor, oil, acrylic, print-making and weaving. I chose to pursue art as an avocation while I working full-time in a variety of occupations including elementary art teacher, graphic artist for my own printing company, refugee resettlement worker and college administrator. In 1986 I married Allan Hansee and moved to Corning, NY, to become the Executive Director of Career Development Council. Since retiring from CDC, I have devoted myself to my art. For twelve years, I traveled the country from New York to New England, the mid-Atlantic States to Florida exhibiting my unique hand-woven wall hangings at outdoor art shows. I also demonstrated the weaving process throughout the Southern Tier of New York State. In 2013 I sold all of my looms and my yarn stash and moved to Florida permanently after living there for several years as a “snowbird.”

In the summer of 2014, I attended a week-long workshop in pastel painting, a medium which I had never used before. I fell in love with the vibrancy of the colors and have learned to layer colors on the painting surface rather than mixing them on a palette. As a member of the Pastel Society of Central Florida I have participated in member shows and have been inspired by the work of others in the group. Through the medium of pastel, I continue to develop technical skills as an artist, and to interpret what I see in my own unique way. I am now exhibiting oil and pastel paintings at juried outdoor art shows in Florida, as well as at West End Gallery in Corning, NY. I am an avid bird watcher and enjoy visiting nature preserves and wildlife refuges, taking photos of the local flora and fauna to use as reference material for painting. I have begun painting en plein air and hope to develop more skill in this area.”
