Summer Feature Exhibit: Celebrating the Creative Journey
Artist’s Statement
My vision has evolved from capturing individual images in watercolor/acrylic to searching out and elaborating upon the common thread that ties a series of my works together.
My first, I think, was my Spires Series (not unpredictably, any building in the City of Corning that featured a spire.) This was followed by a more challenging quest to paint artistic views from each of the sixteen Chemung River system boat launches. More recently, inspired by my daughter’s May wedding, I “married” spring birds with their early-blooming trees.
This way of seeing has led me to this new series entitled “Hiding in Plain Sight,” the first painting of which is included here.
And then, there is “Little Joe.” In one mad moment, I considered painting the tower from every angle in 360 degrees! Coming to my senses, I explored this Corning icon in each seasonal setting.
Weaving single threads, such as these, into more complex relationships may be the foundation for my future work.
